Port Victoria: links golf on the honour system
Port Victoria Golf Club at 98 Edwardes Terrace plays traditional sand-scrape links on the Spencer Gulf eastern coast: an 18-hole par-70 winter course open April to September, and a nine-hole par-3 open all year. Shifting coastal winds shape the scoring. The club runs on the honour system — pay online by card before teeing off or use the green-fee box — and golf here dates to 1925.

Winter eighteen, summer par-3
The 18-hole championship links runs along the coastline through tree-lined fairways, with a Saturday-and-Wednesday winter competition season and a monthly Ambrose plus Club Tea on the first Saturday. The par-3 follows the coast before turning inland over 937 metres — redesigned and reopened in November 2024 with upgraded putting surfaces — and runs Friday-evening summer competitions at 5pm under a 35-degree heat policy, with a first-Friday Ambrose and barbecue and a hole-in-one jackpot on every par-3 hole.
The par-3 is the welcoming arm: open all year at an accessible fee with balls and clubs free to use while you play, pitched at families, visitors and newcomers. No carts are available to hire, though sharing with members may be possible on competition days, and full members hold reciprocal rights at Yorke Peninsula sand-scrape courses through winter.

Parklands 1925, links 1952
Club president S. Powell opened a nine-hole Parklands layout near the oval in May 1925, with the full eighteen completed that year and a relocated Balgowan office for a clubhouse. Seventeen women formed the Ladies Golf Club in June 1927 — their shilling entrance fees bought children’s swings — playing monthly tournaments until wartime recess, revival in 1951 and full revitalisation in 1957, before the men’s and women’s clubs eventually unified.
The present links date to August 1952, when trustees secured Mr Menz’s leased land at a nominal £2/19/6 a year with grazing rights retained — professional Rufus Stewart advised on the layout, built under Edwardes, Hasting and Bittner. SAGA affiliation followed in February 1953, the first Men’s Open in July 1955, and today’s mixed Open draws golfers from across the peninsula and Adelaide.
