Wool Bay: dry-season golf by the sea
Wool Bay Golf Club was founded in 1948 on the western side of the small seaside town between Stansbury and Coobowie — an easy two-and-a-half-hour drive from Adelaide by the club’s figure. Nine non-irrigated holes with scrapes play 5,076 metres to a men’s par of 67 and women’s 73, and the club notes it is one of a small number of peninsula courses playable all year round.

Two seasons, one course
The non-irrigated ground gives two different rounds: in the hotter months shots run further over cut dry grass, while the cooler wet months play more like a typical watered course. Broad fairways and well-kept scrapes are the constants. The published layout shows nine holes played twice for eighteen, with the closing hole using a shorter alternate tee — 161 metres against the ninth’s 259.

Competitions and the honesty box
Club competitions run Tuesdays and Saturdays from noon, and visitors are welcome arriving half an hour before the start — a Saturday nine-hole competition is the current advertised format. Outside competition times the course is played via the honesty box at the clubhouse door, with a visitor green fee per round. Membership brings year-round golf plus reciprocal rights at many Yorke Peninsula courses, and a social membership exists alongside; course volunteers are always welcome.
The club is at 88 Ulonga Road — the president on 0447 079 493, the captain on 08 8852 8284, and [email protected] by email.
