The course & your visit
Yorketown: the watered course in the middle
Yorketown Golf Club on Golf Road sits 230 kilometres from Adelaide by its own figure, virtually in the centre of southern Yorke Peninsula between Gulf St Vincent and Spencer Gulf. The eighteen plays over watered fairways and tees to black scrapes — playable all year round — and the club publishes affectionate playing notes for every hole. Open seven days sunrise to sunset, with winter and summer competition seasons that both welcome green-fee players.

The eighteen, as the locals call them
The hole notes have a voice. The first is easy off a wide fairway unless casual water lurks right; the second tempts long drivers to cut the right-hand trees with ruin for a slice; the eleventh is the hardest hole for men and women alike. The sixth’s blind crest demands threading trees to reach the black in two, the seventh is the shortest and easiest — until the southerlies blow — and the sixteenth’s long par three can want a 3-wood or driver over casual water.
Out of bounds stalks the round: right on the fifth’s twin par threes, right on the eighth’s long par five, and off a fourth tee that encourages aiming toward it. The thirteenth’s modest par five offers the day’s birdie chance for the forgiving tee shot.
