The course & your visit
Barossa Valley: Morcom among the vines
Barossa Valley Golf Club plays eighteen holes to par 72 at 191 Golf Course Road, Nuriootpa — the club puts itself an hour from Adelaide and the airport, in the heart of the wine region. Vern Morcom’s layout runs through tranquil bush where kangaroos roam and rare birds visit, surrounded by vineyards. The member-owned club welcomes visitors seven days a week, and its history runs through Angaston slag scrapes to a 1962 opening.

The course and practice ground
Morcom’s design pairs consistent greens with generous fairways, punishing rough and placed bunkers — the venue’s own summary of the test. Practice is unusually complete: a driving range open sunrise to sunset with a 24/7 automated ball dispenser, a putting green, a practice bunker and a chipping green. Golf carts are hired through the shop, which also stocks clubs, balls, apparel and accessories.
Play runs seven days subject to availability, booked online or on (08) 8562 1589. Main competitions fall on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays plus public holidays, and everyone is welcome to join the field. One local rule matters in summer: a 40-degree Channel 7 forecast closes course and clubhouse.

From Dalwitz’s scrapes to Kalimna
The club began as the Angaston Golf Club in the early 1900s, affiliating with the SAGA in June 1906 and playing nine holes with slag scrapes on John Dalwitz’s land between Angaston and Nuriootpa. Dalwitz’s 1953 bequest passed the property to the club; the next year a sub-committee bought 162 acres from Penfolds at Kalimna for an eighteen, to be known as the John Dalwitz Links.
Morcom was commissioned in 1957, the course opened in September 1962, the club renamed itself Barossa Valley in 1968, and full grass greens arrived in a 1995 renovation. The account is credited to Mrs M. MacGillivray — a volunteer history for a volunteer club.
