The course & your visit
Thaxted Park: the family club in the rolling south
Thaxted Park calls itself the family club, and the setting does half the work: rolling hills at Woodcroft on the edge of the southern wine region — the club puts itself 20 kilometres and about 20 minutes south of the CBD — with views to the sea and fairways threaded through creeks and dams that draw wildlife. Opened in 1964 and built by its foundation members, it pairs an 18-hole par 70 with a busy bistro, an academy and a competition record the club is proud of.

Hills, water and all points of the compass
The layout works the rolling ground with tree-lined fairways interwoven with creeks and dams, and the club notes the routing deals holes in every compass direction so the round never feels repetitive. Santa Ana fairways under irrigation and bent greens are the surfaces. After decades of only minor changes, the front nine has been redeveloped under architects Crafter and Mogford.
The competition pedigree is specific: four Simpson Cup wins, which the club frames as the most successful record away from the sandbelt, and a reputation as a breeding ground for professionals who have played tours around the world. Memberships are currently available in all categories with no joining fee or waiting period.

Saturday golf and visiting
Saturday has its own structure: competition tee times from 11:30am to 1pm for players with a Golf Australia handicap, then public twilight from 3:30pm with no handicap required and bookings essential through the pro shop. Through the week the fee schedule covers visitors, members’ guests, juniors and pensioners and students over nine or eighteen holes, with carts and pull buggies for hire and corporate, trade and group days by arrangement.
The pro shop on (08) 8325 0046 is the booking point, and the address is 1 Golf Course Drive, Woodcroft. A dress code is published on the site.

Juniors and the academy
Junior clinics cater to all abilities and ages with enjoyment and learning as the stated aims, run by the club’s PGA professionals — the club claims to lead the way in junior development and encouraging female participation, backed by Ladies Go Golf clinics. A 90-day come-and-try membership is advertised for golfers weighing up joining, and a hospitality membership covers the non-golfing side.

The Park Bistro and functions
The Park Bistro overlooks the course with lunch, dinner and kids’ menus from locally sourced produce, open to members and the public: lunch Tuesday to Sunday, dinner Wednesday to Friday, with bookings recommended. Wednesday nights add a members’ draw alongside dinner. The rooms take wedding receptions, engagements, birthdays, anniversaries and conferences against the same course views.
