The course & your visit
Blackwood: where challenge and friendship meet
Blackwood Golf Club sits in peaceful bushland at 611 Cherry Gardens Road — the club puts itself seven minutes from the Blackwood roundabout and fifteen from the Tollgate. Founded in 1930, it pairs a championship eighteen with what it calls a challenge-and-friendship ethos. Kangaroos, koalas and kookaburras watch the golf here; the members’ club warmly welcomes visitors, and the coaching stable is among the most decorated in the state.

Bushland golf with its own water
The course is framed by magnificent trees with fairways and greens set among the bush, bunkers and water hazards sited to be taken on or avoided. Its own water supply keeps the ground staff independent — a genuine asset in the Hills. The course-tour page offers a map and per-hole icons rather than written hole notes, so the fine detail is discovered on the ground.
Practice is extensive: two putting greens, a chipping hole, practice nets, short and long driving ranges — one on synthetic grass — a dedicated practice hole, and a 90-metre pitching area with its own green and two bunkers. Summer brings twilight golf alongside the competitive and social programs.

Visiting a private club
Blackwood is private and encourages members to bring guests, but green-fee visitors are welcome on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays after 11am. All public bookings go through the pro shop on (08) 8388 2250, seven days a week — groups should have names and Golf IDs ready, and the shop also handles club, buggy and cart hire plus junior rates.
Hills conditions get explicit policies: catastrophic fire days, dangerous weather and hot-weather guidelines are all published for visitors, alongside a motorised-vehicle policy for carts. Local rules sit on the scorecard back and the balcony noticeboard, and daily handicap lookup charts cover every tee set.

Coaching and getting into golf
Head professional Troy Lane has coached at Blackwood for over fifteen years and been named SA Teacher of the Year five times, with tour professionals among his past pupils. Lessons are bookable through the shop, which keeps daily opening hours with extended Thursday twilight and weekend starts.
Beginners are a deliberate mission: Get Into Golf programs run for men and women, many current members started that way, and the MyGolf junior centre feeds a junior membership offer for under-16s. The Club Advantage card gives 5-, 6- and 7-day members reciprocal-style rounds at other Adelaide clubs, with Loxton, Millicent and fifty-plus interstate clubs on the reciprocal list.

The two-storey clubhouse
The comfortable two-storey clubhouse looks over the course and opens seven days for lunch, with Thursday-night dinners through summer. Functions, weddings and corporate golf run through the same rooms, and the venue’s own summary is a drink or meal after the round while reliving the best shots.
