Mawson Lakes: country feel in the city
Mawson Lakes Golf Club calls itself a country feel in the city, and the formula is straightforward: a nine-hole course with par threes, fours and fives off a variety of tee placements, which the club puts twelve kilometres from the CBD beside Main North Road. Founded in 1979 as The Palms, it presents itself as a community cornerstone where public players are genuinely welcome rather than tolerated. Everything about the visit — online booking, hire gear, coaching, a volunteer-run clubhouse — is set up for accessibility.

The club
The club leans into its history: founded as The Palms in 1979, grown into what it calls a vibrant community with a rich history, its clubhouse displaying medals, trophies and memorabilia from decades of competitions and events. The course is nine holes threading the Mawson Lakes suburb, described as a serene escape with country charm minutes from the city.
Competition golf structures the week — member competitions on Tuesdays and Saturdays, a general competition on Thursdays, Wednesday twilight through the October-to-March season, and Sunday social golf on booked tee times. Visitors fit around that programme rather than competing with it.

Playing as a visitor
Public players are welcome any day outside the Tuesday and Saturday morning competition windows. Tee times are booked online up to seven days ahead, with a QR code for Sunday social bookings, and cart hire can be arranged at the time of booking. On arrival every player must register in the clubrooms and take a receipt confirming the tee time.
Electric carts are available with booking required and a driver’s licence essential; clubs and push buggies can also be hired, so beginners need not own gear. Dress should be clean and neat — the code explicitly rules out thongs, work boots, singlets and football gear. Groups of eight or more and corporate golf days are catered for through the club direct.

Clubhouse, coaching and community
The clubhouse offers refreshments and a place to gather after the round, with a pro shop stocking balls, gloves, tees and clothing — wider gear can be ordered in. Coaching covers beginners through advanced players plus juniors and groups. The club notes it runs with the help of volunteers and sponsors, which sets the tone: this is a community operation that happens to run a golf course, not the other way around.
