Mount Compass: Crafter’s Fleurieu links
Mount Compass Golf Course sits in the heart of the Fleurieu Peninsula — the venue puts itself an easy 50-minute drive from Adelaide and 20 minutes from Victor Harbor, Port Elliot, Middleton and Goolwa. Neil Crafter of Golf Strategies designed eighteen links-style holes over gently undulating sandy ground, keeping the site’s original topography: gorse dotting the landscape, 84 tight bunkers and integrated water features across a par 71 of four short holes, eleven par fours and three par fives.

The Crafter connection
The venue makes much of its architect: Crafter is presented as a long-time devotee of Alister MacKenzie — of Royal Adelaide, Royal Melbourne, Lahinch and Augusta National — with his own portfolio running through Kooyonga, Glenelg and Barwon Heads plus courses across Asia. At Mount Compass the brief shows in the sandy soils and the untouched folds of the ground rather than in manufactured features.

Playing, hiring and playing rights
Public golfers book through the site’s booking tab or the pro shop on (08) 8556 8500, with weekday and weekend green-fee schedules plus junior and pension categories. New carts, clubs and pull buggies are hired, an expansive driving range and practice putting green serve warm-ups, and lessons are available. Corporate, trade and group rates run by prior arrangement through the clubhouse office.
The venue’s membership equivalent is Playing Rights: annual individual contracts from 1 October in 7-day, 5-day and junior categories, applied for in writing with instalment options. Note the access roads run through a residential area with 50 km/h limits.

Dine and wine
The bar and restaurant opens to the public with lunch Wednesday to Sunday, a bar from mid-morning, and roast, dessert and drinks menus including local spirits — bookings essential on (08) 8556 8022.
